God the Builder 1

A New Church Centre for St Madoes

Our church is a key focal point for local life and through our programme of regular worship, outreach and fellowship activities we have good links with the community at large.

The church itself dates from 1799 and of course there have been major developments in the parish over the years not least of which have been changes in the local population. This is an expanding community with new homes being built and many families moving to the area. As a church we are very conscious of the limitations for our accommodation and we aspire to develop a new Church Centre as the focus for church and community activities which will, in turn, help us in our bid to do God’s work in the parish.

Presently, in addition to the church we use the local community centre as a base for activities such as the Fireworkers (Sunday School), Snack Group, Kirk Session and Guild.  This is far from ideal and our vision is the provision of a Church Centre to enable us to expand our current activities and develop new areas of ministry and service. Our Church Centre would be a hub for church and community life and a modern place of fellowship and outreach appropriate for the 21st Century.

The Church Centre ambition is being made possible by the sale of part of the glebe to a house-builder. Although the income from this sale is to go towards the general stipend fund, there is still capital available for investment in the project. However, a feasibility study is necessary to examine all the issues that need to be considered: suitability of land; design and build options; features and facilities and, of course, likely capital requirements.

The feasibility study is currently in preparation (spring 2008). While there may be significant capital available from the proceeds of the sale of the land, it is anticipated that there will still be a significant shortfall in terms of the resources required to deliver a suitable facility.

Perhaps you are reading this short article and can offer some gifts or talents that would help us deliver our ambitious project. We would love to hear from you!  However, all we really ask is that you remember us in your prayers as we seek to serve the Lord here in the Parish of St Madoes and Kinfauns. (See 3 Peaks Challenge)
